Incoming first-year manufacturing engineering student Jenavieve Echegaray, of Tucson, listens as the class supervisor goes over a calculus problem during the afternoon study time on Monday, June 17, 2024, in the Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program at Armstrong Hall on the ASU Tempe campus. In its 39th year, the summer camp program is intended for mature and motivated students interested in careers requiring mathematics, science, or engineering-based coursework. The high-school and incoming college first-year students are often first-generation college-bound, typically underrepresented in STEM, and/or represent diverse backgrounds throughout Arizona, including rural communities and Native Nations. Those from within a 50-mile radius of Tempe spend weekdays on campus, and the rest of the 82 students live the entire six weeks in an on-campus residence hall. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
