Social work grad student and Pat Tillman Veterans Center staffer Sonia Carrasco works on creating a model of a human heart with soft-clay on a 5-1/2-inch square board on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the School of Art’s warehouse. The clay projects reflect resiliency, strength or empowerment to the artists. Half a dozen veterans affiliated with the University, are working on the sculptures that will be cast in resin-coated sand and then have molten iron poured into the form. The final stage will be adding a colored patina to the sculptures. The program is run by Bruce Ward, a veteran and ASU BFA alumnus working with the Tillman Center and assisted by ASU art faculty.
