New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez addresses a crowd of progressive allies and supporters on Thursday evening, March 20, 2025, at Mullet Arena on the Tempe campus. This was the second of a five-stop “Fight Oligarchy" campaign with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to rally against the turmoil in Washington D.C., which they attribute to President Donald Trump’s executive orders and departmental cuts. Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the urgent need to eradicate money's political influence, "The billionaires who are taking a wrecking ball to our country," said Ocasio-Cortez—alluding to Elon Musk's, and other billionaires in President Trump's orbit. "Their disdain for working people is a shorthand for the right's entire political agenda and a certain kind of ugly politics in this country—and that is lying to and screwing over working middle-class Americans so that they can steal our healthcare, Social Security, and veterans benefits." An ASU Fire Department official stated that there were 5,600 people inside the arena and another 5,800 in an overflow area outside, with many individuals being turned away.
