Zin Mar Aung
During a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, Dean Douglas Sylvester talks with Zin Mar Aung, a former political prisoner from Burma, about the potential development in that country of rule of law and constitutionality. Aung learned about the College of Law’s clinical program, which provides law students practical lawyering experiences, while assisting citizens with justice, and may be a model for creating access to justice in Burma.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (ret.) talks with Burmese democracy advocate Zin Mar Aung and Douglas Sylvester, Dean of the College of Law, during a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 14. Justice O’Connor was interested in hearing about Aung’s imprisonment for 11 years for her involvement in her country’s pro-democracy movement. Aung is part of a larger delegation traveling the U.S. to broaden Burma’s democratic network, train her and her colleagues, and explore partnerships with U.S. organizations. The visit was planned by ASU’s McCain Institute for International Leadership.
