ASU Now - Biodesign C
DownloadTEMPE - June 1, 2018 - ASU Now - Biodesign C - One of the rooms adjacent to the compact X-ray free-electron laser is completely radio-frequency proof, and completely grounded allowing for a pure source of electricity to flow to the laser. The third building of the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University, Biodesign C, opened in April 2018, and will soon be home to 80 lead researchers and 400 support staff. The work inside the five-story, 188,000 square-foot structure will address healthcare, sustainability and security issues in 'neighborhood' labs, designed to encourage collaboration between scientists of different disciplines. Its crown jewel lies in an underground vault: the first compact X-ray free-electron laser (CXfEL). The new laser holds promise for highly-accurate cellular imaging and bioenergy research. It will also allow art forensic experts to verify authenticity of rare paintings. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU Now
