Senior research specialist Peter Goguen, right, check out the fracture test sample with Professor Barzin Mobasher, Tuesday, June 8, 2021, in his lab in ASU’s ISTB2. They applied 272 lbs of pressure to a sample of the fiber-reinforced concrete, identical to the fascia wrapping the Tempe campus’ new ISTB7 building. The concrete façade will provide thermal insulation as well as an artistic appearance. Mobasher is a professor of civil and environmental engineering faculty in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment and is responsible for a broad and interdisciplinary research program dealing with theoretical and experimental mechanics of solids. His current emphasis is on development of new construction materials and processes for their manufacture, analysis and design. Photo by Charlie Leight/Arizona State University
