Elinor Ostrom poses for a photo on Feb. 24, 2005. Ostrom won the 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, a prize she shares with Oliver E. Williamson of the University of California at Berkeley.
She is a Research Professor in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change and Founding Director, Center for the Study of Institutional Diversity at Arizona State University as well as the Arthur F. Bentley Professor of Political Science at Indiana University, Bloomington. She came to IU in 1966 as Assistant Professor, became Associate Professor in 1969, Professor in 1974, and Chair of the department from 1980-84. She is the Co-Director of the Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis since 1973 and Professor, part-time, School of Public and Environmental Affairs since 1984.
