Panelists Elizabeth Brink, a co-regional Managing Principal of Gensler’s Southwest region, left, Kate Collignon, a partner at HR&A Advisors, and moderator Marty Borko, executive director of the Urban Land Institute in Los Angeles, participate in the panel discussion, “Recovery of the City: Imagining Los Angeles and 10X urban centers in 2030 and beyond,” Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the City Club Los Angeles, as part of the 10 Across Summit. Gensler and HR&A Advisors are Summit’s lead sponsors; Gensler is a global architecture, design and planning firm, and HR&A works with real estate & economic development projects. The panel explored the past decade, with cities being lauded as engines of vitality and criticized as governance failures. COVID-19 drove the reversal, often deepening pre-existing fissures. They discussed how cities can rebound better than before, including how changes in work, housing, and transportation will be registered in rethinking public spaces and commercial buildings.
