World History teacher Kirtland Kack checks his computer after giving instructions to around 135 ninth graders at Westwood High School in Mesa, Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Many school districts throughout the country face teacher shortages, due in part to low morale. Westwood is taking part in the Next Education Workforce program allowing teams of teachers to collaborate in working with large groups of students – often around 135 – and rotating between group instruction, one-on-one interaction, small group study groups or whatever the team agrees is the day’s priority. As a result, the educators have more control and satisfaction with their work. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
