Third-year graduate student of planetary geology, Mariah Heck, shows off her crochet version of the Perseverance rover, Thursday, February 18, 2021, at ISTB4. she is a member of principal investigator Jim Bell's team. The rover Perseverance is the most sophisticated vehicle NASA has ever sent to the red planet. Its goal is to collect carefully selected and documented rock and sediment samples for future return to Earth. It will search for signs of ancient microbial life, characterize the planet’s geology and climate, with the ultimate goal of paving the way for human exploration beyond the moon.
