Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) talks with engineering graduate student Patrick Shea as he tours the ASU NanoFab at the Engineering Research Building on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Shea, studying under SWAP Hub CTO Professor Krish Chakrabarty, this first-generation college student is focusing on ways to maximize solar power efficiency by reconfiguring solar cell circuits. The senator, who has a graduate degree in aeronautical engineering, discussed students’ microelectronic and semiconductor research during the hour-long tour. Sen. Kelly witnessed activity supported by the CHIPS and Science Act inspiring student engagement and developing the workforce of the future on the Arizona State University campuses.
