DownloadTEMPE - August 17, 2020 - ASU Now - Fall Welcome Minhaj - Hasan Minhaj addresses students as part of the ASU Fall Welcome, Monday, August 17, 2020, sponsored by the Civic Engagement Coalition. After giving a brief story of his life, he spoke about the upcoming election and how "reality is up for grabs." He addressed racial, virus, political and voting issues before answering students' questions. Minhaj is the host and creator of the weekly comedy show, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, that premiered on Netflix in October 2018. He earned acclaim for his one-hour Netflix comedy special, Hasan Minhaj Homecoming King, that earned him a 2018 Peabody Award and for his performance hosting the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. A first generation American, in November 2014, Minhaj joined The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where he was Jon's last hire as a correspondent, and he continued on in that role after Trevor Noah took over as host the following year.
