DownloadYOUNG - Oct. 5, 2018 - ASU Now - Pleasant Valley Young - The Young Cemetery features graves of at least four of the victims of Pleasant Valley War, in Young, about 150 miles northeast of Phoenix, on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. The small community, near the Tonto National Forest, played a central part in the Pleasant Valley War, a livestock conflict involving two families – the Grahams and the Tewksburys. The "Valley of the Guns: The Pleasant Valley War and the Trauma of Violence," a book written by New College Associate Professor Eduardo Obregón Pagán, discusses how the small Arizona settlement suffered numerous gun battles with Western Apaches and other settlers between 1881 – 1892.
