ASU second-year doctoral student, Zachary Van Tol, rides bike outfitted with heat sensors to collect data on the effects of cool pavement coating on city streets. ASU sustainability researchers have teamed up with the city of Phoenix to better understand the performance and life cycle of “cool pavement” sealant on Phoenix streets.
ASU researchers are collecting compressive temperature data on the cool pavement’s effect on the surrounding air and its potential to reduce nighttime temperatures. The resulting data will help ASU researchers and the city of Phoenix better evaluate and understand the greater impacts of the cool pavement, and help inform future heat mitigation strategies.
