ASU Now - Homecoming Block Party
DownloadTEMPE - Nov. 3, 2018 - ASU Now - Homecoming Block Party - ASU Physics department's Don Balanzat demonstrated a super-cooled superconductor and its levitation above the magnets he's holding at the 2018 Homecoming Block Party – The Greatest Show, Saturday, November 3, 2018. The tiny filament of superconducting material in its casing is cooled with liquid nitrogen to -200 degrees centigrade. The material is then locked or moves nearly frictionless depending on the magnetic field on which it's placed. Thousands of ASU alumni, families, students, and even a few University of Utah fans came to sample the various colleges and programs at the ASU open house. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU Now
