20220720 - Psyche Model - Tempe
Image fully released. Model release on file in Media Relations & Strategic Communications.
Eric Van Lake, left, and project lead Keno Snyder with Rhino Staging & Events Solutions, bolt sections of second simulated solar panel to install on the full-size model of the Psyche probe Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in the lobby of ISTB4. The spacecraft will be permanently suspended from the second-floor ceiling above the lobby. It is made of an 8x8x10-foot box probe and two 35-foot aluminum frames representing the large solar panels. The craft’s 78-foot length is similar to a tennis court. A dozen ASU students helped build an interactive demonstration version of the probe designed to explore a metallic asteroid. Some of the systems they highlight are Communications, Spacecraft, Navigation, Videos and a rotatable 3-D model of the actual craft. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
