ASU instructor Lance Graham discusses with his Pen Project Prison Teaching class (ENG 484) the methods of shaming and the lack of personal privacy employed in incarceration to encourage prisoners to adhere to the rules on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the West Valley Campus. Graham, who emerged from prison with an 8th-grade education, returned to school and graduated from ASU. He now teaches writing classes to maximum-security inmates in New Mexico and to prisoners at all security levels in Arizona.
