Emily Hawbacker, an ASU alumna, joins her co-workers in one of two SolarSPELL training sessions with Phoenix Fire Department’s Community Assistance Program members on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the department’s special operations in south Phoenix. The nearly 20 employees learned how to help victims of emergencies and how to download curated content to their smartphones, tablets or computers. The remodeled crisis response library is colorful, illustrated and rewritten in English or Spanish to a fifth-grade level. The victims can also download content from the ASU SolarSPELL unit for children, including art, games and movies, to distract them from the emergency.
