Assistant Professor of Forensic Entomology Lauren Weidner displays some metalic jewel beetles from her collection of more than 3200 illegally trafficked insects, primarily from Asia, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, in her West Valley campus lab. She purchased her earrings, made from the forewings of beetles, at an entomology conference. She is the lab director of the Forensic Entomology & Wildlife Laboratory (FEWL) in the School of Interdisciplinary Forensics (SIF) housed in the New College School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. FEWL aims to increase insect knowledge as bioindicators in forensic contexts through scientific research and broad educational outreach. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
