DownloadTEMPE - Feb. 13, 2018 - ASU Now - Biodesign C - Charlie Leight is in getting ready to enter the second floor of the $120-million third building of The Biodesign Institute, on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018. Biodesign C is scheduled to open in mid-September. ASU's newest structure is five stories tall, plus a basement. Its crown jewel lies in an underground vault: the first compact X-ray free-electron laser (CXfEL). The new laser holds promise for highly-accurate cellular imaging and bioenergy research. It will also allow art forensic experts to verify authenticity of rare paintings. Photo by Nikai Salcido/ASU Media Relations
