The image is fully released; the model releases for the students are on file with the Center for Cybersecurity & Trusted Foundations, and the adults are on file in Media Relations & Strategic Communications.
Computer science doctoral student Syed Navid, left, talks with his mentee Daniel Jian at the poster reception on the final day of the eight-week Center for Cybersecurity and Trusted Foundation’s summer high school research internship program and the students’ poster presentations on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the Brickyard Courtyard in Tempe. Jian, a junior at the Arizona Agribusiness and Equine Center at Estrella Mountain, worked on unveiling educational technology applications that perform unwarranted tracking despite several regulations in place. He figured out which unauthorized third-party trackers are used to monitor children online. He plans to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Phoenix College by the end of his junior year and a second bachelor’s degree in data analytics while he finishes high school. After that, he plans to apply for graduate studies in data systems, possibly at ASU. By learning about Cybersecurity at a young age, students can positively impact their academic and professional careers. The annual program partners Phoenix-area high schoolers with graduate student mentors from ASU’s CTF and the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI) for collaborative research on campus.
