ASU Now - Concrete Mobasher
DownloadTEMPE - October 16, 2019 - ASU Now - Concrete Mobasher - A failed sample of concrete retains some tension strength due to being reinforced with plastic fibers. Professor Barzin Mobasher and his students worked on calculations to determine the amount of fibers to add to concrete to produce a given tensile strength. He is working with Valley Metro to produce a 12-inch concrete foundation to its light rail track embedded with fibers which will be stronger than the 14-inch thick rebar-reinforced concrete it currently uses. The cost savings will be substantial. Mobasher is a professor of civil and environmental engineering faculty in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment.
