Arizona Department of Transportation Lt. Joe Dopadre, center, talks with students and faculty about Mexican commercial trucks at the Nogales Port of Entry on Thursday, April 5, 2023, in Nogales, AZ. A dozen students – eight international relations students from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and four journalism and mass communications students from Cronkite – spent the day on the border learning about water issues, agricultural produce and its transportation from Mexico north. The incubator is a collaboration between the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University and the Political Science Department at the ITAM, in conjunction with media partners in the U.S. and Mexico. The binational course, with the support of a U.S. State Department grant, allowed students to research, report and create journalistic content about the US-Mexico relationship in both English and Spanish.
