Third-year aeronautical management and graphic information technology student Valerie Loera counts out three spaghetti squash seeds for a garden kit as part of the Sparky Day of Service on the Polytechnic campus, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in the Cooley Ballrooms. Dozens of on-campus residential students participate in the project. The Changemaker Central event, coordinated with Valley of the Sun United Way, will create small packages of dirt, three kinds of vegetable or herb seeds and labels. The kits are put in half egg cartons, with instructions, and will be handed out to low-income area elementary students to help them learn about healthy food and where it comes from.
