ASU Now - Distinctive Collections
DownloadTEMPE - March 13, 2020 - ASU Now - Distinctive Collections - Celina Osuna, a doctoral candidate in desert and environmental literature, looks through The Codex Atlanticus, part of a 12-volume set of drawings and writings by Leonardo da Vinci, housed in the Rare Books and Manuscripts section of the Distinctive Collections in ASU's Hayden Library, Friday, March 13, 2020. The facsimile was obtained by the ASU Library in 1974. Its name refers to the large atlas paper that was used to preserve da Vinci’s original notebook pages. Many of the sketches include his mirrored writings. Retired rare books librarian and former head Special Collections Marilyn Wurzburger acquired the work during her 48-year tenure. She retired in 2009 and is making a $1 million endowment to the ASU Library to advance archival research materials. The gift establishes the Wurzburger Reading Room. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU Now
