Fourth-year pre-vet student Jennifer Kobs and Associate Professor Andy Mara finish preparing the nearly four-foot deep ditch for a pair of burrowing owl habitats as a dozen ASU Polytechnic campus students and faculty construct new underground shelters for relocated birds on Friday, March 24, 2023. The birds were initially translocated to the undeveloped parts of the campus in May 2021. Unseasonably heavy rains flooded the habitats. Faculty and students from the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, Wild at Heart raptor rescue and community volunteers installed weather-proof housing for the small raptors. The group installed six shelters, with plans to return the birds over the weekend. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
