New York Times bestselling author, Colson Whitehead talks with ASU Assistant Professor Solmaz Sharif, Wednesday, January 27, 2021, during the 2021 Jonathan and Maxine Marshall Distinguished Lecture. He began by reading an excerpt from his recent book, “The Nickel Boys,” a fictional story based on a Florida orphanage, the state-run Dozier School for Boys in the Panhandle town of Marianna. The two discussed whether storytelling changes society, the author or nobody. His Pulitzer Prize winning book, “The Underground Railroad,” is being turned into a televised miniseries.
