DownloadYOUNG - Oct. 5, 2018 - ASU Now - Pleasant Valley Young - ASU Now reporter Scott Seckel makes a new friend at a ranch in Young, about 150 miles northeast of Phoenix, on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. The small community, near the Tonto National Forest, played a central part in the Pleasant Valley War, a livestock conflict involving two families – the Grahams and the Tewksburys. The "Valley of the Guns: The Pleasant Valley War and the Trauma of Violence," a book written by New College Associate Professor Eduardo Obregón Pagán, discusses how the small Arizona settlement suffered numerous gun battles with Western Apaches and other settlers between 1881 – 1892.
