Former Congolese refugee and third-year Accounting and Business student Penina Fez Mto speaks along with a group of SPARKS ambassadors, Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Sands Classroom and Lecture Hall on the West campus in Phoenix. Middle- and high-school students, and their parents, largely former refugees from the Republic of Congo, take part in ASU’s American Dream Academy work on tools and skills to ensure their academic success. SPARKS is a student-led service organization at Arizona State University promoting access to higher education throughout the community. In October, Burundian and Congolese families have been participating in workshops that offer both STEM career activities and the American Dream Academy. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
