The image is fully released - the model release is on file in Media Relations & Strategic Communications.
Elder-in-residence Janelle Allen, of the Diné Nation, right, talks with third-year social work student Amber Means, a Hopi/Lakota Sioux member, about a class project she's doing, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in the American Indian Student Support Services office on the downtown Phoenix campus. Allen and another elder provide spiritual support, encouragement and guidance for Indigenous students. They work approximately 15 hours per week, bridging the gap between families and students, mentoring, offering their traditional expertise and facilitating discussions at the four AISSS sites. The program aims to increase retention for American Indian students by building connections and community for an increased sense of belonging at ASU. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
