Northern Arizona University staffer Tyler Roberts carts 1-year-old trees to planting sites. He and others are planting 1000 mesquite and palo verde saplings, near the southwest part of the West campus, Thursday, November 19, 2020. The young trees were grown and are being planted mostly by employees from the Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research, a part of NAU. The desert vegetation project is a carbon-capture forest demonstration. The saplings are planted about a two-feet depth so their tap roots will venture deep.
