A City of Phoenix street crew applies a foot-wide layer of the asphalt-based seal coat between the street and the sidewalk at the 15th block of west Atlanta Avenue in South Phoenix, Wednesday morning, October 20, 2021. This is the second round of a heat study with two new coatings, both having higher reflective values than the previous one used last year which showed a 10.5-12 percent decrease in surface heat versus traditional asphalt.
