ASU Now - DBS Shill
DownloadPHOENIX - August 5, 2019 - ASU Now - DBS Shill - Neurologist Holly Shill, MD, chats with Mesa resident Kimball Rogers, after the initial testing and calibrating of the deep brain stimulator that was implanted a month ago, at her office in the Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Monday, August 5, 2019. Shill is the director of the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow. Rogers, with his wife Sharon at his side, felt the effects of each of the four neurostimulators as they pulsed with electrical current. He noticed his tense muscles relaxed, and his tremors diminished. ASU neuroscience engineering Associate Professor Bradley Greger took part in the July 10 procedure. He is researching what happens to the neural cells when stimulated by targeted electrical impulses. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU Now
