Lab manager and forensic psychology graduate student Sydnee Wedel applies a blow fly's dyed DNA to an electrically charged gel bath, which is part of a test of its PCR treatment in Assistant Professor Jonathan Parrott’s forensic entomology research lab, Wednesday, January 4, 2023, on ASU’s West campus in Phoenix. If the PRC treatment is successful, the current pushes the DNA to a set distance. Parrott’s interests in genetics and forensic investigation coalesced allowing him to estimate the minimum time of death and location based on scavenger insect activity and lifespan.
