Mechanical engineering graduate student Vaibhav Khanna, places one of the six sheath-and-auger anchors into the metal enclosure, on Friday, September 13, 2024, in a lab on the Tempe campus. A cadre of ASU students competes with other universities in NASA’s 2024 BIG Idea Challenge, a rigorous challenge that allows students to design, build and test projects related to NASA’s mission needs today while developing relevant hands-on experience that will prepare them for successful aerospace careers. The Challenge asks students and faculty from Space Grant-affiliated colleges and universities to design, develop, and demonstrate critical prototypes supporting the Space Technology Mission Directorate’s work for various NASA missions.
