Panelist Anne Coglianese, Chief Resilience Officer with the City of Jacksonville, FL, talks about her city in the panel discussion, “The Heat Is On: The summer of 2023 and our adaptation strategies for a warmer future,” Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the City Club Los Angeles, as part of the 10 Across Summit. The Ten Across I-10 dividing line has always known heat — but never like the highs and durations experienced throughout the summer of 2023. As temperatures have consistently risen in the cities in this corridor, many have found it necessary to create the role of Chief Heat Officer to address the many consequences. This includes impacts on the economy and built environment and significant dangers to human health. The panelists of Chief Heat and Resilience Officers from some of the largest 10X cities gave their observations. With the benefit of their leadership, can the southern states serve as the bellwether for climate survival and adaptation in the U.S.?
