Class tutor Amy Rogel, a second-year medical studies student works with incoming first-year Kennett Ho on a pre-calculus problem during the study time on Monday, June 17, 2024, in the Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program at Armstrong Hall on the ASU Tempe campus. Rogel, a first-generation student is a two-time alumna of the Program. In its 39th year, the summer camp program is intended for mature and motivated students interested in careers requiring mathematics, science, or engineering-based coursework. The high-school and incoming college first-year students are often first-generation college-bound, typically underrepresented in STEM, and/or represent diverse backgrounds throughout Arizona, including rural communities and Native Nations. Those from within a 50-mile radius of Tempe spend weekdays on campus, and the rest of the 82 students live the entire six weeks in an on-campus residence hall. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU News
