When first-year history student Angelina Baca was finishing up at Betty H. Fairfax High School in Laveen, she planned to attend a local community college because of the cost of a four-year university. She received the Personalized Admission Project letter announcing she had been accepted to attend one or more of Arizona’s three state universities next fall - before she applied. She has an older sister, who received the personalized admissions letter the prior year and is enrolled at ASU. University was not even on her radar until receiving the notification. She says it completely shifted her perspective on her future, and she is now studying to be a history teacher. The early acceptance letters are part of an expanding effort in Arizona to get more students attending college after high school when businesses are clamoring for more workers with higher education.
