ASU Now - Call Out Culture
DownloadTEMPE - April 14, 2020 - ASU Now - Call Out Culture - The virtual panel discussion on the Call-Out Culture begins with a half-dozen statements that viewers rate on levels of their agreement, Tuesday evening, April 14, 2020, sponsored by ASU's Project Humanities. Professor Neal Lester moderated the discussion featuring Associate Professor Sarah Amira de la Garza and Ellie Hutchison, an educator, writer, theologian and community collaborator. The panel focused on defining and the merits of calling out or holding accountable individuals and corporations. How can public shaming also cause harm? Does being called out improve behavior? What does "canceling" someone mean in practice? Is there a way to engage in call-out culture with sincerity and without contributing to the divisiveness that tends to come with it?
