ASU Now - Biodesign C
DownloadTEMPE - June 1, 2018 - ASU Now - Biodesign C - A distinctive copper skin shields the building and helps conserve energy in the third building of the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University, Biodesign C, which opened in April 2018, and will soon be home to 80 lead researchers and 400 support staff. The work inside the five-story, 188,000 square-foot structure will address healthcare, sustainability and security issues in 'neighborhood' labs, designed to encourage collaboration between scientists of different disciplines. Its crown jewel lies in an underground vault: the first compact X-ray free-electron laser (CXfEL). The new laser holds promise for highly-accurate cellular imaging and bioenergy research. It will also allow art forensic experts to verify authenticity of rare paintings. Photo by Charlie Leight/ASU Now
